The Farmers Market

​The Farmers Market at El Cerrito Plaza began operation on July 24, 1994. The Market is a Certified Market, which means it has been Certified by the State of California Department of Agriculture.  The market was established for the benefit of both producers (certified growers) and consumers. 

The Market and El Cerrito Chamber of Commerce became partners in November, 2012​.  Market Manager, Jean Thompson, managed the Farmers Market for more than 25 years, starting her tenure in July, 1999.  She said, "during these years, the market has stayed consistent in providing quality fresh produce and fruit, sold by the friendly farmers that grow it.  Both vendor and customer are very often on first name terms and have become like family."

Upon Jean's passing in January 2025, the Chamber sought a new operator.  We were pleased to find Regional Farmers' Market Association, and by May 15, 2025, their management of the Farmers' Market  began. 

Regional Farmers’ Market Association are experienced operators, with a team of combined experience of 41 years, Greg Pursley, Jorge Vega, and Paolo Obillo.

Since taking it on, they have added live music and more prepared food vendors to the mix.  Chamber Members also have an opportunity to utilize a reserve booth space by applying here.
